DALLAS – Team Texas took home the Pylon Youth 7v7 Champions Cup in a nail-biter finale.
The Dallas-based youth team defeated Rhare Breed (California) in overtime, coming up clutch in AT&T Stadium – home to the Dallas Cowboys. It was Pylon’s first-ever 7-on-7 event held in an NFL stadium.
“I’m proud of them,” head coach Ray Mickens, a 10-year NFL veteran, said. “I know when I was their age, I never had a chance to play on a field like this. So I could only imagine the emotions that they had.”
Jayden Jernigan, a 2019 DE, took home Offensive MVP honors playing WR. Cody Crist, a 2020 RB, took home Defensive MVP honors playing DB. Other top performers on Team Texas’ versatile roster were 2019 WR Brandon Theus and 2020 FS Jake Fex.
As for Rhare Breed, the L.A. Pylon champs had a very impressive 2nd-place showing in Dallas.
2019 QB Jayden Daniels was dropping dimes all day and put his team on his back, making extremely clutch throws. 2019 WR/DB Darren Jones, who is 6’7″, was also impressive.
“Obviously the talent is top-notch,” Mickens said. “That’s why I like my kids playing in Pylon tournaments.”
